Path of Exile 2 will be the next iteration of Grinding Gear Games hit dungeon-crawler, but if you’re wondering when the game comes out along with everyone else, you’ve come to the right place.
Path of Exile 2's Release Date
We don't have an official release date just yet, but according to the developers we're looking at a late 2023 and more likely 2024 release date. Beyond that, though, we're likely to see a beta before the actual release of the game, and that will come likely sometime in 2023, though again this hasn't been confirmed.
Originally, the game was expected to come out much earlier, in 2022 in fact, but the game was given a meaty delay to ensure that Grinding Gear Games made Path of Exile 2 the best it could be while dealing with COVID, supporting Path of Exile, and developing a new game at the same time.
Naturally, as we inch closer to an actual release we'll learn more about the specific details about what's coming when, but until then, we'll all have to wait to learn more.
Path Of Exile 2 Trailer
Grinding Gear Games released a cinematic reveal trailer for Path of Exile 2 as well as a gameplay trailer at ExileCon in November 2019.
The company also released an updated cinematic trailer and gameplay walkthrough in 2021. The gameplay walkthrough trailers will be discussed in the next section.
In this 2-minute cinematic trailer, Path of Exile 2 is revealed as a new 7-act storyline that will continue the same main campaign from Path of Exile.
The trailer started off with the character selection screen wherein a bit of background where the characters of the game originated are shown.
The characters are on death row, ready to be hanged criminals that escaped by jumping into the sea and ended up waking up on the shores of Wraeclast.
Path of Exile boasts a dark, fantasy world. Wraeclast is the continent that serves as the penal colony of criminals who are exiled from the Island of Oriath.
Other scenes from the trailer include gameplay excerpts and fighting sequences. Exiles fight off monsters and various creatures from the Eternal Empire and the Vaal civilization.
Aside from that, the skills, weapons, and abilities of some of the character classes are also shown in the trailer.
Path of Exile 2 Switch
It also looks like Path of Exile 2 will be released to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X but not Nintendo Switch. In an interview at ExileCon in Auckland, Grinding Gear founder Chris Wilson told that the idea is to launch Path of Exile 2 on the current generation of consoles and the ones to follow.
Path of Exile 2 System Requirements
Path of exile 2 for mac edition as well as windows 10 edition will be there. Here are the predicted minimum and recommended Path of Exile 2 system requirements.
Path of Exile 2 Guide
Path of Exile 2 will introduce a completely new campaign storyline, consisting of seven acts, and an overhaul of many of the game’s core systems. The skill gem system will be drastically changed, removing gem sockets from equipment and moving them to active skill gems instead. Other additions include a major visual rework with physics-based rendering, and an unannounced rework of the passive skill tree, and 19 new Ascendancy classes. Already owned microtransactions will still be available. Lastly, both Path of Exile and Path of Exile 2 shared the same end game Atlas system.
7 Act storyline. The new storyline lead to the same shared Atlas endgame as the Path of Exile 1.
In Path of Exile 2, you no longer put gems into your items. Instead, the skill gems themselves have sockets.
Items get a fixed amount of primary sockets. 2 hand weapons(4), 1 hand weapons(2), Body Armour(2), Gloves(1), Boots(1), and Helmets(1).
Skill gems will receive a variable amount of sockets based on its item level.
All sockets are linked. This is going to cause huge changes in how players build character. In the past, players didn’t ever want to have more than one primary attack skill because they could only have one or two six-linked things on a character. Now, it is totally viable to have multiple powerful primary attacks.
19 new Ascendancy classes.
Engine improvements.
Retain all expansion content that has been created over the last years. Already owned microtransactions will still be available.
etc.
